Our managing director, Helen Nicholson, began her physiotherapy career in the New Graduate program at the Newcastle Mater Hospital way back in 1997. It was such a beneficial experience that she has dedicated herself to 'paying it forward' by giving other therapists a similarly strong foundation to their careers.

Over the years, the program has been refined and evolved into its current form, which includes:

• Beginning with a "High 5" test and a "Learning Style" quiz. Just as the best therapy is strengths-based, these tests give us the information we need to tailor your supervision program to maximise your learning, as well as help protect you from imposter syndrome.
• You then use our "Supervision Starter Kit" to set your Organisational, Clinical, Professional and Personal learning goals with your supervisor.
• Opportunities for professional development and external supervision are identified to ensure your goals are achievable.
• You also begin working through our self-paced induction checklist, which includes information on everything from how to request annual leave to how to make a mandatory report. Other important topics, like restrictive practices, WHS and "cheat sheets" for common challenges during sessions, are also included.
• Your caseload will be built at an achievable pace, with ample opportunities to shadow more experienced therapists in assessments and complex clients, so you are confident when working individually.
• There are endless opportunities to ask questions between clients, at our daily staff meetings, during our weekly discipline team meetings and in your formal supervision sessions.
• We approach your new graduate year with a win-win-win philosophy: if we look after you well, you will look after our families well, and they will help spread our reputation for excellence!
• You can start your New Graduate year in 2024! This will help ease you into our service and systems, so that 2025 gets off to a confident start for you!
